How we can help

We will support you on your journey.

We will help you focus on your strengths. You will have your own Recovery Coordinator and the two of you will work together to create a plan to help you reach your goals.

You can also take part in structured programmes and access detox and rehab. Throughout your journey with us you can get support from a trained Ambassador.

If you're caring for a loved one with a substance issue, you can receive support from Gateshead Carers.

Your first visit

When you arrive, you will need to go up the stairs to the top floor and press the buzzer to enter the building. You will then enter the main reception area of the hub and will be directed to our main reception desk to book in so we can let the staff member know you have arrived.

Whilst in reception please help yourself to water and browse our leaflets and posters as well as utilising our health check machine which is free to use.

We know this may be daunting, so please feel free to invite someone you trust if this makes you feel more comfortable.

Our hubs

We understand that accessing treatment can be a daunting experience for some people and due to the cost of living some people don’t have the funds to be able to access support as often as they would like.

We now provide the service across hubs within the community of Gateshead. We carry out medical reviews in the hubs once per month with your allocated recovery coordinator and NMP/GP. This is reviewed regularly and can be booked.

Please speak to your Recovery Coordinator if one of the hubs below is more accessible for you and to request more information.

Our main hub is 47 Jackson Street, Gateshead NE8 1EE.

Mental health support

Dual diagnosis means needing support with your mental health and your substance use at the same time.

Our dual diagnosis peer support workers understand first-hand that getting the right help at the right time can be difficult for people with dual diagnosis. They use their own experience to help people access support for their mental health, substance use, and improve their quality of life.

Dual diagnosis peer support focuses on peoples’ strengths and hopes. It helps people build skills to recover and look after their wellbeing. Our peer support workers:

  • Give practical support and advice
  • Help people learn ways to cope
  • Help people develop goals for recovery
  • Help people access community resources and support networks
  • Lend a supportive ear
  • Share tips that have worked in our own recovery
  • Talk through emotional challenges

Supporting people in hospital

We have two Hospital Liaison Recovery Coordinators working from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead to provide advice, guidance and pathways into structured support for patients struggling with drugs or alcohol. This support is free, confidential and available to Gateshead residents.
