Making our website accessible for everyone
Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to use our website. That means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader
We’ve also written the pages in a way that is as clear and simple as possible, so everyone can understand them.
This guide from AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use.
Accessibility of this website
This statement only covers our main website (changegrowlive.org).
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible and need improving:
- There are some problems with the way our interactive quizzes function with screen readers.
- PDF documents are not accessible to screen reader software.
You can find more detail on these issues below.

How we're improving accessibility
- In 2022, we had an audit done of our website by the Shaw Trust. We are working through the problems it has flagged with the intention of fixing them as quickly as possible.
- We will keep testing our site (more information further down the page) to make sure everyone can use it.
- We are attending training sessions with organisations like All Able and upskilling the organisation on digital accessibility.
- We are hoping to collaborate with other charities to share learnings in this area.
Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Change Grow Live is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Insufficient colour contrast in signposting elements.
- Empty headings – our “padding” element is registered as a heading, but it’s decorative. It needs to be tagged as such.
- Our form fields need to have a descriptive label, so users know what they need to enter, for example on our pharmacy search function.
- Some of the elements of our website have empty buttons, which means there is no descriptive text to indicate the function of the button.
- Some pages have markup errors and parsing errors that may impact on assistive technologies and may cause screen readers to miss content.
- It is now possible to use our interactive quizzes using just a keyboard, however the screen reader defaults to the button on each page, rather than starting by reading the question.
We will continue to add to this list if we find more problems during testing.
Disproportionate burden
- The PDF documents on our website do not meet accessibility standards, because they are not fully accessible to a screen reader.
This problem means we don’t meet requirement 2.1.1. We currently don’t have the resource required to re-create all our documents in an accessible format. We are avoiding uploading documents to our website as much as possible and plan to eventually have no documents on the site, so it is fully accessible.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Not applicable.
How we test our website
- We use our website with Narrator, a screen-reading app that's built into Windows 10 computers, to find any features that don’t work with screen reading software.
- We use Hemingway, an online app that helps you make sure your content is simple and easy to understand. We aim for every page to have a reading age of 10-11 years old.
- We will continue to hold user testing and content testing sessions with people who use or have used our services.
